We have saved and saved and done without things to go to the beach this summer. The Government cut Hubby's check $200 in March for medical, no notice that was gonna happen and with high electric bills, made things rough. Then got a letter they were gonna cut $100 a month after that. So, in April we lost $100. He applied for help with is medical and they said he was approved starting in May but his check was cut again this month. On top of that I have had to make several long trips to a dermatologist for skin cancer. But back to the original story. We received news that Bub has to have a $200 nonrefundable deposit for his senior trip next year. We got the letter last week. I really feel like they should have given us more notice, or either gave us from now until the beginning of school next year to pay it. For us, that is a lot of money to come up with.

Wonder if you call the school if they will be able to work with you. I'm sure other people don't have the money to give out on such short notice.
So your husbands check has been changed twice lately and is going to stay changed? Plus in March $200.00 was taken out without warning? Can you talk to someone about this?

My friend called the school and it has to be in by May 30. And about Darrell's check, the $200 in March is gone and the $100 in April is gone. He is supposed to get back but who knows when with the government. But there is good news on Bub's deal. Darrell's sister has volunteered to have a bake sale for him at school to help raise the money. She is a cook at the school. They won't allow parents to come in and do that. But she is gonna stay after work next Friday and have him a bake sale. She got Darrells Mom to pick up some stuff for it and we have bought some stuff for it. And whatever we make on it, we will put toward his trip.

Sometimes they just make ya mad! Hope you get your rebates soon! I know it's hard to save when they keep taking taking taking!

I think it is a school thing to not give notice of fees... I got an email from Summer's upcoming cheer coach that we have to have $350 by June 2nd.... I'm with you- That's a LOT of money....

Are they trying to weed out people or what? I'm used to working in poor schools so maybe my thoughts on this are skewed. I just no that no one in one of my schools would have been able to come up with $350.00 on short notice. The hispanics would have tried to save it up over a couple of weeks but the other part of my school population just wouldn't have come up with it (that's a whole other story cuz they wouldn't no matter how much time) but the Mexican population would have tried to get it together. The parents at my grand children's school would be able to do it but I still think they would complain about the short notice.

We were given about 3 weeks total notice, it will definitely be a struggle to come up with, do-able, but a struggle. What is sad is that is not all of the fees for cheerleading. School fees have gotten out of hand!! The $350 covers shoes, bloomers, warm-ups, bows, and bags. I have no idea what else they need, because they don't get to keep anything else...ridiculous!

What's really going to chap your a** is that the students at the schools where I worked and a lot of the parents didn't (by choice) and were on public assistance, had their fees waived. Tax dollars buys books, uniforms, pencils, bottles of water for PE and field day, whatever they need.

Bub and 5 of his fellow classmates have raised $120 each toward their $200 deposit. We are having a carwash Sunday and hope to raise the rest(for the deposit) or as close to it as possible. The total for their trip is $1500-$1800. The school said they would be having fundraisers all next year, but coudn't possibly raise it all by fundraisers. That is so sad. So many kids will have to miss out because their families don't have the money. If we had to pull it out of our pocket, Bub would not be going, but we will take a loan to finish paying whatever he has to have. Not a great plan, but I feel a child goes through school, never any problems deserves his senior trip. And many of them never even thought of doing fundraisers for the deposit. My sister-in-law did this for Bub and his best friend.

Well, Bub and 4 others raised $130 toward their deposit each and were told that was enough for now. But on top of that, Darrell's sister again has stepped up. She tried to make some money for herself, using the cheerleaders. Ok, that is not the stepping up part. But when the check arrived at the school it went into the cheerleaders fund. $250 was supposed to be hers. She got them to transfer her $250 into Bub's senior trip fund! She does things in a roundabout way but hey, it only helped Bub out in the end.
