I have 3 apple trees on my property .. I believe they are cortland .. My question or issue is it looks like they get a rust on them .. the skin gets this brown scaly stuff on it .. I was wondering if there was a way to prevent this from happening, and what is the best organic way to keep bugs and such off them ? I really wanted to make pies etc out of them but they were to buggy

Here is something that might help with cedar rust. It does recommend some things to use that are organic and also give a link for organic methods. As far as bugs go I would try safers insecticidal soap if aphids are involved . what bugs are attacking your trees? link

I honestly don't know .. little bugs that eat apples? wholes in them like worms but I don't know what bugs are up here in Maine we just moved here in July . I have never had fruit trees before but I would rather use them then let the squirrels eat a bite and leave the rest on the gazebo railing ...

If they are very old trees there may be no help. Old tree;s that have been neglected for years are hard to revive from what i have seen. Maybe prun hell out of'm mite help, then take care of what's left of the trunk to give it new life.

I moved into a house once that had a TWISTED_UGLY pear tree in the yard, the owner said it was no good..and I could cut it down..I pruned off the dead, the "in Growing" limbs..and the candelabras the (new little switch like branches growing straight up)and That summer..we had great pears..the owner, who had a great fruit orchard at his house couldn't believe the difference in it..I DID spray a oil spray once early and another at blossom set Apples be hard to grow without some types of care.. You can "no Spray" apples..if you have time, here's a great link to do it without sprays www.vegetablegardener.com/item/11422/how-to-grow-no-spray-organic-apples/page/allnysipm.cornell.edu/organic_guide/apples.pdf
