My plants are doing good in the tire towers so far. I also have some in 2 dryer drums with open bottoms to get them off the ground. My land doesn't stay wet like yours, but my thinking was they would get the chill hours better by not being in the ground but instead raised hence cold gets to the roots easier. Not to say asparagus doesn't grow this far south, I've just never seen it cause the heat get at lot of plants here that isn't zoned for this area.
My peonies (not zoned for here) is on its 3rd year and blooming by putting it in a large container where it gets morning sun, evening shade for protection. Also I left and inch of root exposed so it can get its chill time also. Clematis doesn't do well here in the ground, but does fine in containers with the same conditions of sun/shade time.
I like mincing some garlic to roast on the asparagus with a drizzle of olive oil. Don't overcook them so they still have a crunch to them. Yummy. trudy

Mc, that surprises me. I thought they would thrive in your neck of the woods. Wish I knew what to tell you but I don't. Don't know enough about the peony. I'm surprised mine has lasted this long, this year it has bloomed the best ever so far. Makes me want to try other colors. But better not test fate. T

i don't think it is you Mg.. i think it is because we live in the sticks.. seeds and plants don't sell that fast.. martha stewart seeds suck, i think any way.. also when places start shipping, a lot of times too soon, the plants and seeds get cold

Okay MickyG, iph you planted the hearts last year, they may not come up fer a while. As long as they are in semi-moist soil with LOTS oph sun, Just hang on and give em a chance. Around here the only things commin up are in the sunny areas with moisture. Like the south side oph barns that are the low side. Just hang on and be patient .LOL. I can't do that either. I mean be patient.

Peonies are a phunny picky plant and can take a while to get started as crazy1 said It can sometimes take a few years for them to get big enough to bloom just keep it moist for a while and it should start coming up. Once it gets settled it should be care free for the most part How deep did you plant the lil buggert cause that can make a big difference How big was the root you put in and did it have any eyes er shoots on it if no eyes then it will take a while for it to come up......... DON'T GIVE UP JUST YET!

Sorry Digger, I missed this somehow. We treat them just like pickles. Just use your favorite pickle recipie. Our patch isn't doing well this year. Neither are the spots we usually pick it wild.
