I grew red skin potatos and did not have a very good year. But the odd thing is that the best looking plants had bumps all over the potatos. What are these and what causes them?

Were the bumps a bad thing, or were they just there? I've had some with bumps on em before, and some were in real crazy shapes. I think that was due to some real hard ground I was growing in fer the first year.

Pictures would be neeeded for a diagnosis, or lok up these three possibilities: root knot nematode Potato Wart (serious problem) Too much (excessive) rain/watering. Crazy, yes, clay or hard soils will cause anything from no potatoes, to some real hard to peel spuds.

The one on the right is smooth on the top then gets bumpy as it goes down. If you look along the edges of the potatoes you can see how they stick out. Thanks for looking. Mike

Looks like the eyes of the potatoes to me. That is where the sprouts come from. I have a couple of sweet potatoes that look like that. In fact, one has a sprout about 5 inches long.
U R right crazy. Why dod people peel them potaotes. Just wash them off.

Okay, I cut into one and it looks normal. These little bumps are potato, not a forigen growth. If I peeled the potato you would never know they where there. I don't think it's hurting anything, just never seen anything like it.
