I am beginning to think my critters are going to have to go on a diet. I just bought feed this morning, and again, the prices are up a little more...and a little more. The sunflower/kernel mix I buy for my doves (and some wild bird feedings as well) is usually around $13. When I bought it today, it had gone up $4 in price. YIKES ! I added some milo to the feed today, trying to hedge a little. This was todays prices.... Goat and kid...$7.25 a bag Lay pellets $10.15 a bag Milo $ 8.70 a bag Hen Scratch $ 8.95 a bag Sunflower Mix $17.80 a bag

Dollar at at alltime low. Means people from other countries are getting a bargain for our commodities. So they are buying up grains.

With more and more corn going to provide ethanol it will continue to soar. Watch for the price of rice to go soaring as pharmers in the south convert over from rice production to corn. Too, more and more meat is being consumed by pholks globally which factors into the cost of grain (supply and demand) as people compete with hogs and cattle for the grain. This is really a critical concern for pholks in third world countries due to the amount of their budget (as high as 80%) versus the USA (15%) that is spent on groceries.

Y^ou are right about the meat price soaring, today I looked at a chuck roast and it was like 5.99 a pound. Looks good but not that good. I been keeping an eye out for just out of date meats and such and saving quite a lot from time to time. We have a lot of out of date stuff here as they keep things as long as possible. But I'm not going to complain cause I save sometime and I work for the grocer now and then and make back good money to make up for the high prices. That's the way I look at it to psych myself some. But everything is going crazy for sure. $4 for farm phresh eggs here.

Our layer ration has gone up from $11 to $11.75 for 25lb bag. Cracked corn is $11 for 50lbs. Starter/Grower is $9 a bag. I think next year I may plant a cover crop of feed corn....... nirtherndigger- $4 for store bought, or local, fresh eggs? Sheesh- I get $1.50 a dozen for mine. Holy Cow! What a difference!

Farm/free range easter eggs and some white and brown from a lady who has 500 varieties of irises by the way. I'd buy your eggs regularly if we was close in a minute. The eggs were $3 but just went up. CAlifornia? go figure lol. But the lady has the iris, she said 500 different types. Some mighty pretty colors too. They are $5 here by the way. I was wrong on the chuck roast by the way, it is $4.55 a pound. Don't know what chicken feed is here, no chickens for now but it would be nice some day. I will check on the prices here soon if I can remember for general reference.

Yea, things are spinning out of control and I was reading that prices are supposed to continue rising for the next few years. But when have they ever gone down? Can you say depression?

I bought feed today...prices are up again a little bit...
Goat and kid.....$7.25 Hen Scratch......$9.70 Lay pellets........$10.60
The goats are able to nibble on the tree leaves more now, so that helps a little. Obama, the llama is never full, he loves to eat....chickens are getting supplemented with feed bread we buy bulk at Abilene whenever we make a Dr. trip up there if they have it....Of course, the goats love feed bread and Hombre the Longhorn can eat a loaf a day himself, plus his other morsels of delight.
