Jeanette when I order chickens I use these sites/catolog as a reference: www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/category/books_and_more.htmlI don't order from McMurray cuz of the # of chicks that have to be ordered. My last order came from: www.ideal-poultry.com/ You can order however many you want. But usually no matter where you order from there is a good description along with each breed. A lot of things can determine the egg size, such as general health, housing, age of the hen. Mine I ordered last spring are all large egg producers an have lived up to there expectations so far.

Well the chicken poop is a good fertilizer Jeanette. Also chickens are great for the garden, they eat almost all of the bugs. But you gotta keep em away from the tomatoes. They do like to eat em. We're thinking about getting some and "penning" them in the garden area this year. But we're just thinking........and that hurts sometimes.

I'd love to get some chickens for the eggs, bug eating, and fertilizer but my tiny piece of land and all the predators that wander through I dont think I'd have much luck.

I don't know about the "large" eggs, but I got the Ameracaunas last summer and they starting laying their eggs for me on Christmas Eve!!! what a Merry Christmas!!! anyway, they lay green eggs. Pretty cool. and they are very tastey too!!! I recently got this guy to stay out in the yard with them to prevent any more predators in the yard: this is my daughter and Sampson
