She's is pretty! We bought a pig from My husbands brother in law, but he raised them at his place. We just got to pick up all the packages in the fall. I'd like to raise a few pigs for meat. Maybe next year.

My cousins best friend had chickens & a pig when they were young. Arnold, the pig, was constantly getting loose. into the neighbors yards & gardens. Their dad finally got fed up. Was going to take Arnold to get butchered. Pig didnt want to get in the truck {go figure}. So he calls the butchher. "Do I have to bring him in live? Or can I do him in, he's giving me a heck of a time" Butcher says shoot the pig. So he gets there and is told we cant butcher him for ya cause he came in dead, so we dont know if he was healthy....... {{huh? Ya just me to shoot him...}} Dont remember how it was resolved. But kids would come home & ask "What's for dinner?" & mom would reply "Arnold".

We are raising Little Bit for food, Sweet Pea- I'm not sure yet whether we will be able to put her on the table Hand raising one to eat is a bit different than tossing food in. Yup, that's what she said- I was hoping noone would notice that!

Well- Lil' Bit's "time" came a bit sooner than expected. She managed to climb out of the pen yesterday and after chasing her and bribing her- we had to put her down before she got in the road and cost us more in car repair than it cost to raise her. I'm sure gonna miss that lil thing! (All 140+ pounds of her) We are doing the butchering ourselves since the Cold Storage place around here won't take one if it is already dead. We hung her overnight and are going to do the cutting and packaging tonight. I'll let you know how it all goes. One last pic of her- She sure was a perty piggie!!

as soon as I seen this in the "50 most recent" I phigured her time was up! Good, I'm glad your home butcherin her, people should do their own butchering, not enuff do, and before ya know it, it's another "lost skill" that the next generation will have no knowledge of! Here's to ya (hits exalt button)

Thanks Phil! Yeah- we always did our own butchering growing up(cows, pigs, chickens, etc..) I am re-learning it all because I was just a young-un, but I actually enjoy this part(kinda wierd to most people, but......) Our neighbor that gave us the pig in the first place is teaching us(Doug and I) how it's done. He really is a life saver!! My oldest thought it was really cool to see the whole process. She is definitely her momma's girl!

well it is something that takes practice, a pheller that laura knows wanted advice on butcherin his deer, I told him to bring it out, cause it had been a couple years (actually 12, or since I moved to this DEER BARREN STATE) (i'll get some comments on dat) So, If you are to be an observer...Maybe some pics on the how to We have already virtually butchered a sheep here on da phorum
