Today marks two months since the winter solstice. Pots of seedlings sit on window sills in the relatively stronger sun of late February. Spring is on the way, although a winter storm watch has been posted for tomorrow - more snow.
Has the sun appeared over the horizon yet in the Lofoten Islands of Norway?

lol,, yes it has. we now have a total of 11 hours of light. but officially you can subtract an hour because i count prelight and dusk, after sun sets at night as light also,,, when you live in the dark for a over a month, any light counts as daylight,,,,,lol.
7:30am its gets light out but not bright that happens about 8am. and about 5:30pm the sun starts to set,, but its dark about 6pm now,,, but we get about 4-8 minutes more a day of light each day.
I also have my herbs started on the window sills and a few different kinds of pepper plants, since they grow slow, and growing season is really short here. i plan on starting my veggies soon, around mid march. by june it can all be put out. all my herbs but one have sprouted, but still on the first set of leaves,,,, so i'm doing good an right on track...lol.

Yup we're getting that snow now. 9" predicted for here. There are 2 storms. One came across PA the other across from Lake Ontario. I think the PA one is dumping on us. Maybe I'll start some herb seeds in windowsill pots. I need to grow something !

Yes, the storm watch has been changed to a warning, another nor'easter. It's snowing at the moment.
I was surprised at how quickly the artichoke seeds germinated - the first green nub peaked out of the potting mix yesterday, only six days after sowing. Today all four pots have sprouts, although nothing about artichokes should surprise me, since this is the first time I've tried raising them.

I'm right in the middle of the good ol USA here, and this winter has been the coldest we've seen in several years! We've had a lot of snow this year!
On Saturday, we woke up to sleet that turned to snow... HUGE flakes! Just beautiful! Never got more than aobut 2 inches deep. then on Sunday, it got up to 50 degrees! WOW! THAT will give ya Spring Fever!

We've had only about four feet of snow thus far, a fair amount of sleet and cold rain, and temperatures above average. That said, winter is far from over. JT
