For medical reasons, my husband and I need to move somewhere that doesn't get ice in the wintertimes. We had already been suckered into moving to Washington state, where people told us "oh, it hardly ever snows here" and we've just finished our second week of snow. Same happened last year. Here's what we need/want: Within 1/2 hour to major retail areas (husband is a retail manager and will need to find work). Property 1 acre or more. 3 bedroom/2 bath single story. Under $250,000. Low crime. Is there such an critter?

thats too bad, don't know off hand, but I am sure one of the folks here will be able to help, with the dollar amount you listed, you should be able to get a really nice place down south...Now, ifin I could convince you that it's nice year round in Minnesota

The northeast is icy too. Arizona, Nevada area is pretty if youre ok with desert. Remember to skip tornado areas.

Don't know what to tell ya.....the weather has been really strange in the USA and elsewhere in the world....In fact , I heard that Bagdad , Iraq got snow within the last couple of days....something they only saw on the "screen" in the past. Just where a safe place to live now ? Even Vancouver , WA had a tornado this week. And I don't know of a place anymore with "low" crime. We have worse winters here & I pack almost everywhere we go...... I'm legal (born here) & have a permit.... BTW , in the past , it did hardly ever snow & ice on the west side of the Cascades....you weren't "suckered".......& the wiphe & I understand medical reasons...

Thanks, everyone, you have given me a great starting place. I'm originally from Nevada, and have no plans EVER of moving back to Las Vegas. bscamo, thanks for the info. It's nice to know we weren't suckered, LOL!! I'm glad you understand about medical reasons. Some people I talk to say, "I don't understand how you can be in pain just from the cold." Phil, you ain't suckerin' me into yer neck of th' woods... I've SEEN pictures of Minnesota snow and want no part of it, ha ha.

outch! i know what thats like, its like the cold settles into you like its rooted in your bones, n there aint no getting it out, hurts like he!!, you can be standing right infront of a heater, or sitting on a register n the hot air dont reach the cold in ya. i hope ya find a warmer place, i think in california its warmer? the winters here in pa are cold n lots of ice. i think half the time we get more ice than snow.

Southern CA. would be a warm choice but not the big citys, too much crime but smaller towns not so bad and lots of warm weather. But it does get cold some. Where I live there ain't much in the way of crime but it is cold and 70 miles to the nearest real hospital. I'd say Hawaii isabout the closest to perfect weather I have heard of in America cept Florida but you are back to crime and all the other risky elements.

SC is a nice warm place to live. I don't know about the crime rate in our area, but I know the big cities have a lot. We live out in the boondocks, so haven't had too many problems...

Come to Texas ! We have occassional snow, but really mild winters compared to others. Our town is small but growing. Just 45 miles to Abilene, about 35 to Brownwood. We have alot of retired folk here, come to this area because of lower taxes I think. The pitfalls is medical care, it is also 45 miles to a major hospital. There are Dr.'s here in the small towns, but it is something to think about.

I hope you find just the right place to move to. I understand about the cold and pain, and crime is so bad, it is hard to figure which way to go. But good luck.
