A good friend of mine went to the doctor to see about bad pain in his foot which had worked it's way up to his hip. Doc put him in the hospital immediately. Said it was a blood clot, that was cutting off circulation in the major artery running up his leg.
Second day in hospital, they did an MRI and found a second one in his lower right lung! They had planned to inject something directly into it to break it up, but today, they've changed their minds. The medication they were giving for the first one, apparently has improved this one enough to avoid that.
He had been walking 2 miles a day with his dog, trying to drop some weight. Doc said that's the worst thing he could have been doing under the circumstances, and won't even let him out of bed to use the bathroom!
Sure glad they caught it in time!!!

Thanks! They let him out today. He's resting at home. I have yet to talk to him and get the details of why they decided he's okay. Seems to me they gave him a little blood thinner, and a lot of pain meds, ran him through the donut, and let him lay there and eat their food for a week. As soon as the insurance wouldn't pay anymore, they let him out! Hmmm.. Is he really okay

That's our good old medical system today!! WE had a friend that had surgery and was feeling really bad 3 days later, the insurace was out so he told the hospital he would pay cash to stay in a few more days, that he just did not feel right,He has the money to pay and could prove that, sent him home anyway and 6 hours later he died of a massive heart attack!!!! OnLY in his early 50's,his poor wife lost a mate of over 30 years, highschool sweethearts, all you can do is pray for him ,i should nbot say all you can do seems how HE CONTROLS EVERYTHING!!!!

songbird, glad your friend is doing better...don't know much about clots but am really surprised that he was told to stay in bed...thought the current medical philosophy was to have everyone up and about no matter how ill they were...
gardenhappy, that is such a sad story...it serves to remind us that life is short and each day should be cherished...

That's a sobering story, gardenhappy! I don't have much love the medical system at all! I spent more on medical during the one short year that I had medical insurance, than I ever have in my entire life ! Greed!! Now my friend's mother is saying she doesn't trust the elderly doctor's diagnosis, and wants to take him to a specialist! I hope she does. He just isn't "right" somehow...
