What chaps me is that I can easily remember the good ol' days when I paid 15 CENTS a gallon!!! Something has got to give - being on a fixed income, every dollar counts. Every trip to town is planned, we don't go visiting kinfolk nearly as much. I even quit hauling my 400 lb electric scooter to doctor visits to cut down on vehicle weight - use the lightweight manual wheelchair instead.... Gas prices keep rising, guess it's back to the horse and buggy days.....

I hear that, much as gas and food are rising I can see how we and others could become homeless just from one or two bad occurences. I have told my wife more than once that we arejust two shakes away from it. Our gas is 431.9 now and it will definately go up more before summer is over. I better oil up that bike I just bought at the dump for $5. We decided we wouldn't take any trips this year at all, just don't have it.

It's all a scam..........and we're all the "scamees"....... For example , many years ago "they" added a nickel per gallon to add lead to gas. When "they" 1st took lead out of gas , "they" added about 25 cents per gallon. Go phigure....... At least some of the money we have "donated" has been used to build enclosed ski resorts in the desert........

You can get them under $2.000 and they can go about 35-45 miles on an open road and they only have a 2 gallon tank to fill, heres what I use, they are great machines

If only those were the prices at the pump Caveman I am sure we would all be highly delighted. ;D In Boston today petrol was £1.06/litre which is $8.00/US Gallon or $9.56/Imperial (UK) Gallon. As an added treat, one of the major refineries in the UK has shut down operations ahead of a 48 hour strike tomorrow. So not only is it very expensive, some filling stations are running dry - already! news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/tayside_and_central/7369043.stm

Remember when the speed limit was 55? Maybe we should go back to that speed limit again. With the gas prices going higher and higher....we have been driving at 55 when we go to Duluth, and you should see all the cars, trucks passing us and holding their fists up at us! I heard that gas prices could go as high as $6.00 somthing a gal maybe even higher over the summer! We won't be traveling much this summer to see family and friends with these prices! (Sorry Phil and Laura )

I only take the van out about two times a week, the less the better So whats going to happen when people can't afford gas anymore? Will the oil business go kirplunk? Businesses could shut down, people will not visit the zoos anymore, shopping malls may close down due to folks not being able to afford gas and stay home instead the streets will be empty with very few cars, groceries are going up because of all this as well, I'm canning as much as I can this year along with freezing garden veggies

personally, I think once this administration leaves office, things will improve..but don't quote me on that. It would be well advised to can more than you freeze Douglas, dosen't cost anything to store it, and what if they start ordering us just how much electricity we can or can't use? after all they already are making "suggestions"

Some places are already doing that as far as Air conditioners even if we pay for it. They are putting in thermostats that are beyond our control and they control how often we can use them Thats why I been going solar so I can use all the FREE power I want as far as lighting I built this light fixture using 200 white LEDs and placed it above the kitchen sink and it can be used all night not hurting the batteries and uses about 3 watts and puts out like a 25 watt bulb. I'm getting ready for whats to come and some day I hope to have an electric car powered by solar energy to get away from the pump

I think that chart from CNN is wrong also. Here in Norway where we get gas, its almost 13 crowns per litre. converted to US gallon, then currency conversion, its 9.6 or almost $10.00 a gallon. But thats up in the Artic. The south will be slightly less than ours, but still in the 12 crowns per litre area. We have tourist season starting here in Lofoten in a few days, so gas will rise some more,,,,fast.

This whole situation makes me glad that I'm the kind of person who hardly likes to even leave home. I live in a small town of 1001 population; my job is 1/2 mile from home; and now I just opened a bank account in the same town to avoid having to drive to my other banking institution I've had for the past few years in the town 10 miles north of me.

About a year ago somebody on bulls and bears said crude could go to $100 a barrel....$118 today........now today they said it might go to $200 by end of year and gas might be $10 a gallon in America. I know we as Americans are supposed to be gas-spoiled but this is just ridiculous.* I'm glad I live in a town bout the same size and work around town but even so some of my clients have bout convinced me to raise my rate a couple bucks an hour. If you can't be part of the solution the only thing to do is be part of the problem, least in this case lol. P.S. I know some of you overseas have it alot worse so I'm not meaning to sound trite.

I'm with Phil — I believe that once the current Administration leaves office, things may change for the better!

Ahhh! To dream. The problem with hoping that the current prices are a result of the present administration is that the current high prices are not strictly the result of faulty policies of the Bush administration, (Although, there certainly have been more than a few.) but the result of overall global changes combined with the fact that unlike previous peaks in the price of crude oil there now truly exists a demand to supply problem. This is due to a great deal to the fact that the USA is no longer the lone gas guzzler. With the onset of globalization which was augmented by policies of previous administrations the USA now finds itself in competition for a decreasing supply with countries that now compete and stand to exceed this country's needs for petroleum. We can anticipate continuing increases in the price of crude oil well past the current administration's tenure. If one needs to find a villian in this situation, one might look to the faulty policies of the former President, Bill Clinton, who left office exposing the US to the international economic winds. Yes, it would be nice to wake up next winter and find ourselves looking back upon a temporary fuel price situation. Unfortunately, and I truly wish I were wrong, this will not likely be the case.

abev , You are correct , sir ! (IMHO) And I find it extremely ironic that one of the biggest "new" competitors for oil is China. The same place our jobs , manufacturing , much of our money , etc. has gone to........... History indicates that most Democracys have been destroyed from within and I hope that won't be the case for us....

caveman........bitein his tongue No reason , CM , to bite......either way....... From my view point , we (via our politicians) are and have been shooting ourselves in the foot.........or worse. The last report I saw was that ,,,,,,,,,WE AMERICANS ............have reduced our gas consumption & other petroleum consumption,,,,,, and yet the prices continue to soar.... It's really scary about what COULD happen.....I hope & pray it doesn't .............. There are none so blind............................
