Hello Folks! Here's my question: How low can you go before you would have to go to the grocery store to restock up your pantry? I thought if would be fun to actually find out. So I am putting the challenge to you. Lets set a start date and then be creative with your meals and then come back to this thread and tell when you had to restock the pantry. If you have anything to add to this please do.

I just had to test this one due to a shortened paycheck (Doug's boss is a jerk and docks him-even tho he is a salaried employee- for sick days ) and I can go about 2 1/2 weeks. That is VERY basic meals and no desserts or extras. I could have gone another week or so, but no one would want to see us because I was down to pretty much beans. Good challenge, Micky!!

Are you talking about store bought goods or the things we put up ourselves? If it is the home canned goods we wont run out before we start fixen the new garden goodies from this year. We have plenty of canned vegies to eat. If it is store bought goods we usually have to buy..milks, coffee creamers, flours, sugar, coffee, we can make our own breads..& do so in the fall & winter when the heat wont stay in the house. & we buy meats.. Right now the only things we would have to re-place is milks..so we are set for quite some time..

Same here, with 3 freezers an the canned veggies I only go to the grocery to pick up basic stuff: milk, cheese, butter, salt an a few meats stuff like that. Then when I do go I buy enough (meats esp.) for a day or two so I'm not in there so often.

Laura, I'm talking about whatever is in your pantry. Doesn't matter if you buy from the store or put up your own food. I'm jut trying to make people aware that the pantry needs to be stocked up with hard times ahead. I'm in the process right now to see how long we can go without having to go grocery store. So far it's week 4. Right now I'm out of eggs, milk, but I have dry milk that we are using. I am also looking at what foods we can just cut out of our diet. It's really eye opening doing this. Next, I'm going to be looking at our clothes, how can I make the clothes, we have now, make do for say the next year or two without buying any new clothes. I'm just taking "inventory" of everything we have, and look at it as, "How can I make this go longer?" I have a pair of sandles that is going on year four! They don't look too bad either!

So that would mean anything in cans and is dry in boxes that can be prepared.
