With the deadline for the Analog to Digital T.V. fast approaching, those affected should be prepared, and many are not. I for instance wanna know: We have excellent TV reception right now, for being out in the country. We get 11 channels well. We have a very good, long range, highly rated antenna..BUT... IF, we are going to need an ROTOR for said antenna... I wanna know now before theres 1-?? feet of snow on da roof So lets throw a vote, and anyone with more than the tid bit of knowledge I have..PLEASE help all the phamily out here.

I don't know a heck of a lot on this, but I know you have to get one of the converter boxes(Our area TV is already on digital- we were a "test" city for the conversion). Without it- you get nothing. All you do is hook it up to your existing system(antennae) and voila! You are good.

The government made it mandatory for DTV transmissions. Will we really ever know why ? Do they really care about us and the quality of our TV picture and sound? I've heard that Homeland Security was involved in the push on Congress to make this law. I don't know if this is true. But I do know that it is easier to include "transmissions" FROM TVS when DT is used. If you don't believe this is possible , consult your GPS. I also know a little about the "Spy Stations" that are scattered around the USA. One of the biggest and best in the world is only about 15 miles from me. They are VERY good at picking up many things including digital transmissions. Just thought I'd bring this up since Big Brother seems to be more prevalent each day......... Discussion is welcome !

XDX: my neighbors house is starting to look like your picture. As for DT TV. I get more channels, since I installed the converter box, but I seem to be having sync up problems. At least once a week, I have to go thru the channel sync process . Since I bought the cheap RCA box at Wally's World, I am thinking of upgrading to the more expensive Zenith. My other neighbor has one and has had no problem to date. Periodically the audio and video go outta sync. Other then that, the picture is much better.

I didn't realise that the USA was switching over too. Here in the UK the rollout started this year but it depends on which TV region you live in as to when the changeover takes effect. According to the postcode checker we don't change until 2011, and I think that the final changes are as late as 2012. The way it's being 'sold' over here is that DTV allows more channels to be squeezed into the available bandwidth and when the analogue signal is finally switched off, those frequencies will be auctioned off to other users. We have digital 'Freeview' boxes connected to each of our TVs which provide around 40+ free to air TV channels and something like 30+ radio channels as well. We had to have a new TV aerial, but our old one was just about due for a change anyway so that wasn't so bad. The strange thing is that I don't think the picture quality is quite nearly as good as the current analogue signal!
