Two or three weeks ago my puter began not turning on till 4 p.m. I believe the lights will start blinking sometimes at about four and then you hit the button and it comes on. I haven't tried it in the middle of the nite but at like six a.m. and after it will do nothing when you push the button till about 4p.m. Then it comes right on. I don't recall doing anything but who knows. It's a dell demincion 4600, any ideas? I don't have a clue. It used to start anytime before. Have a nice day all.

nd ,
I'm no puter expert , but , one of these two tricks may work.
Blow out your on switch with canned air. Push AND hold your on button in for awhile.
Hopefully , one of puter experts , like X , will give you some better ideas. Sometimes pholk don't slide down this far to this part of the forum.

The air occured to me but haven't done yet, but still can't figure why it goes on at 4 no problem. Thanks for the input, might be a dust problem but I'm a puter dummy for sure. Tried holding too but did no good atall, my finger got tired lol.

Well now for a up to speeder, so to speak. #1, it started yesterday and today earlier but that went on for 2 or 3 weeks. Next which might be pertinent or not is my son and his buddy put some unauthorized programs on it, ie adobe, powerpoint, excel etc, etc and it says parts of sp2 are missing and its xp os and I am the only one now but it belonged to my son previously. Incidentially, he is supposed to install a new vista os when he comes down towards the end of the month. Also if that other stuff weren't enough, the 40 gig harddrive is about full but since I am not the administrator I can't make any major dicisions lol. I know this causeit reminds me all the time. Can't defrag or anything like that. He is also supposed to install a 150 gig harddrive. He was going for a 500 but changed his mind, rats lol. Aside from that I don't understand why it would do that. Could the dust mentioned earlier cause the switch to malfunction? Its really dusty around here and I haven't blown it out lately, but I did blow out my bike tire today. lol Also have 2 gigs of mem. This is totally a disjointed description of the picture but,me and puters. Thanks for getting back to me.

IF you have the XP disc I have a possible solution.
Go to start, then run and type in sfc /scannow. Note the space between sfc and /scannow,dont type sfc/scannow,must have a space between them
Now a box will pop up and say ..... ---------------------------------------- Windows file protection Please wait while windows verifies all protected Windows files are intact and in their original versions ------------------------------------------------- Now soon another box will pop up and say...
------------------------------------------------ Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL cache
Insert Windows XP home edition CD-Rom now. Beneath that is retry, more information,or cancel -----------------------------------------------------
Insert disc, hit retry. You may have to hit retry several times to get it moving. This box will also pop up a zillion times telling you to insert disc and hit retry.Just hit retry every time it asks.
This will repair any missing or corrupted Windows files your machine needs to run correctly. Takes about 15 minutes for me to run it.
When the Windows File Protection box disappears it is done. Take out your windows disc and you are done.
BEFORE doing this do a system RESTORE POINT Its go to... Start (Bottom left on desktop) Programs accessories System tools System Restore Click on CREATE A RESTORE POINT and click next at bottom Name your restore point whatever...and click create.
That will take about 1 minute. When done click close.
I have never had any problems using sfc /scannow but creating a restore point may be wise.

You don't want to know how bad it could get lmao. If I do it I will definately create a restore point.........for sure lol. Have a nice day all.

Well, my puter is all brand new now....sort of. My son came from Wash. state for a visit and installed a new vista os. Put in a 150 gig second harddrive and loaded up loads of movies too. He is a good son. He did all this in between sessions of putdowns and harrassment by my b*#** of a daughter-in-law. We try to love her but she just looks for trouble. She is the type of 21 year old that knows way more than "old people" which I know we are cause she tells us stuff like this and this any time she pleases. ............. ........ .......I'm sorry, I'm off subject lol....venting, I'm all better now. I'm happy, now if I can just get down the vista and we found a loose cable inside the tower so I'm hoping that takes care of the no start problem. Have a nice day all.

Well I wont be posting too much for awhile cause when we moved and set up the newer puter it just wouldn't start anymore, nothing notta. So I had to switch to the old one and I just threw away the adapter for the mouse so I have to switch between the mouse and keyboard on the one usb in front. I should be thankful I'm on(I am) but being the typical American, I HATE THIS. But seriously, its good just to visit once again and keep up with the phorum. Hope you all have a good day.

Well we just moved to the other side of this town, Happy camp, but if you wanted to look at property in this area you might want to look up Riverconnection Realty on the net. My small town has few jobs but there are some. And there are properties in the area. We just got an half acre lot next to the woods, people here are friendly but have the small town attitudes. They don't care too much for the extreme environmentalists and the sheriff put a quick stop to the gang members who tryed to move in here a while back, said its a retirement town and people won't be subjected to the foolishness. Its a good town. And there are others not to far with better jobs. Check out that site and if you are really interested I would suggest doing some siteseeing round the area. Lots of goldminers here and lots of hunting. At least here you can pull over to a wide spot on the road/river etc and spend the night without being run off like a lot of places in CA. Let me know what you learn bout realty or if you're taking a trip up this way but be warned, in the winter it is often difficult to travel too far cause of the snow. Northern Cal is a far cry from So. Cal. We lived there in the 70's. LA. There is property to be had here and around here so check it out. Sorry for geting that far off subject but just trying to answer the question.

Thanks ND,yes,we know the area. Our block is from Eureka to Crescent City and 101 to 5 that we would consider.Lovely area and right attitudes. We lived in the Crescent City area,Hiouchi actually for 3 months.Behind the Redwood curtain is where to be! We have been up there 3 years running now looking for land and have friends in the area directly south from you,we KNOW the attitudes too (much different for sure!) and its what we like, also aware of the weather too.And it works for us,its NOT like the rest of Ca or San Fran for sure!Much more freedom from gov. there.Good common sense, etc. You are very lucky to live there. I will check out the links too, thanks for the info,MUCH appreciated! Now returning you to your regular programming,LOL! ...........
