Since I got the free anit virus an the other free spyware I let the Norton expire which is constantly wanting me to upgrade of course. I don't really want Norton. But uncertain if I uninstall it an the Symatic (sp) files or operations or whatever they are called. Will it screw up anything on my puter if I get rid of them? This computer is the Acer with vista home basic. Thanks, T

Trudy- as long as you use the computer's "Uninstall" function, it should not hurt anything. I have XP and uninstalled my Norton and had no problems. I'm sure someone around here will have more indepth stuff for ya, but that's my 2 cents worth. Good Luck!!

Thanks, T Trudy, this is the procedure, I spend more time removing NORTON from computers than anything else: go to: Start>Run> type in: regeditclick OK in the window that appears, at the top : EDIT > Find > type in: nortondelete all files found for norton the window that comes up will have in the right coloum the entries, right click on the highlighted entry, and click delete. then BACK TO EDIT, this time: click Find Next (this finds the next entries) Then whn it says there are NO MOREgo back to EDIT > FIND and type in: Symantecfollow the same procedure, till it says there are no more, and that nasty lil pop up renewal reminder will go away!

I found this a while back and it's free and catches a lot of stuff from spyware, Trojans, addware, and unwanted cookies. Use the 3.1 for your personal computer and update it after downloading. www.emsisoft.com/en/software/download/a-squared Anti-Malware (a2) Download - Free Downloads of the Trial- and Freeware-Versions

I think I got it, but I had to remove it by going to the Programs file in the control panel. Thanks again, T

Trudy, I sure hope you have another Antivirus program. I hope your Not just relying on the Spyware Free Versions... Only asking because those Free versions only GET the Spyware, Adware and so on... NOT the Trojans and other worm Virus'
Hope everything works out for ya..

Trudy, another good free antivirus program that has worked well for me for over 2 years is Avast.com. Works good and renews free every 13 months for free.

You can, but there could be some conflicts. AVG is a very good anti-virus program. Avast is good too. One of those should be sufficient.
You can't have too many spyware removal programs. I've heard that the AVG Anti-Spyware (FREE) is really good. Most of the techie sites suggest using it, SpyBot S&D and Ad-Aware. All are free!

I've downloaded the Avast an already had the AVG, so far I don't seem to have a problem. Thanks, T
