Here are our 6 new Rhode Island Red chicks! They were all supposed to be girls, but I think we may have a rooster in there- one has a pretty big tail! LOL This is them the day we brought them home another one from day 1 And one of my oldest daughter holding one She loves her chickens! Eventually we will be getting some Barred Rocks and Cornish Xs as well, but for now- 6 is plenty!

Those are some fine looking birds, we have some RIRs and are pleased with their performance. They are really too young to tell what sex they are but what you watch for is the neck feathers (hackles) and the feathers at the base of the tail which are called saddle feathers in a male and a cushion in a female, The males will have narrow sharp pointed feathers whereas the females will be broader and rounder.

Aren't you shocked at how quickly they feather out and look like adult chickens? I got 6 Ameracaunas back in mid July and they are HUGE now! Well, what's left anyway...a weasel got into the coop the other day and I only have 3 left. BTW, your little girl is just adorable!!!!

Update on my chickies! They are growing soooo fast. We have started letting them out during the day and putting them back in the "coop" at night. They grew a LOT since we started doing that. and another shot Mackenna loves her chickies, too!

We never have tried Turkeys, don't think we really want to. I've heard they are pretty annoying...
