I may have an opportunity to get back into the oilfield . It's been 23 years since I worked it last, but it's booming and there's lots of $$$ to be made. I'd be leaving a job I've enjoyed for 3 years, but it could mean a HUGE difference in income too. I'm just thinking aloud here. What do y'all think, would you do it? I'd start out making close to the same as I do now, but in a year I could be making 3 times as much. It wouldn't be working a rig, it'd be well testing, which I know very little about, but they say they want to train me their way anyway... might be fun...Or maybe I'm just crazy.

tough decision there Bh... You'll have to do some soul searchin, thats fer sure. The position who currently have, you say you enjoy it. Will you be happy somewhere else, will your wife be content with the change? You know once you leave it, there may not be a chance to go back! The oil boom, has gone bust before in this country, and folks, just as the coal mine families, suffered in it's wake. You have alot of things going on at your pharm bro, A lovely wife, Critters to tend to, all your plantings......will your quality of life truly be enhanced with a few more $$ ? Here's a quote I like: You have succeeded in life when all you really want is only what you really need~Vernon HowardI look at your pics, yer website, and I see a very successful man.

Sure is a tough one to call. I do agree with Phil, tho. Sometimes in our wanting more, we make wrong decisions. But then, you are truly the only one who can make such a decision, even when all around you are giving advice.
I would suggest talking it over with your partner, tho, and seeing how she feels about it. Will you be away from home a lot? Will she have to do all the work in the garden, feeding animals, etc. etc.? Will it actually improve the Quality of your lives, or will it make your family life more difficult, with only a few more dollars in the bank?
I don't know about your personal beliefs, but if you and your wife believe in prayer, then you should pray about it together. This has always been a help to me and my family. Either way you choose, if it is what you both feel is right, then that is what matters.

It didn't work out... I'll stay where I'm at for now. Thanks for all the advice.
