i will be going off line today, and unless I can figure out how to hook up this ancient laptop, my access to being online will be very limited. Here is my problem.
After our house burned, my dh bought a used, old, laptop. We did not have any internet access, so we have been using a Sprint wireless connection card for a 30 day trial. We will be returning it today for several reasons, cost, 2 year contract, etc.
Now, this old lap top does not have a plug in for a phone line, nor does it have a plug in for an ethernet line. It does have one usb port, and we put a splitter in that gives us 4 usb ports.
My daughter has dsl through her phone line, and we could share with her by hooking up an ethernet line and plugging into her modum. however, we do not have an ethernet plug in on our computer. Does anyone have a solution for this or know how we can go about getting access by networking? We know very little about this kind of thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I've seen USB to ethernet adapters sold on the internet. They appear fairly cheap ($15 to $30), and your local computer store might have em.

Yeah, I like your idea better Phil, especially if I was the neighbor I shoulda also said that I really don't know if your internet software would even recognize a USB port as it's connection. Maybe it would with plug & play stuff. You'd have to talk to someone about that first. As far as plantin goes, I don't know if exited is the right word. But I'd sure like to get started movin some dirt.

Thanks guys! I think we have about decided to just get a newer computer. My niece wants this one, so will probably sell to her and just get a newer one, with the proper plug ins and attachments, etc. Sure will save a lot of trouble.

Well, for now, we have solved our computer problems. I got me another gateway, 17" flat panel LCD screen with 320 Gigs of hard drive, cd/dvd player and burner. also picked up a Linksys wireless-g broadband router and now have my new desktop and 2 laptops up and running. I had to call Linksys Tech Support to get the thing installed, but once we did that, the rest was easy. Now I don't have to wait till the computer is vacant to get on. We can all get on together now. Got a really good deal on my computer, a package deal.

I know that's a lot of gigs, but my husband says I can fill up a harddrive like I do a house. LOL We had 80 on our old computer, and we never filled it up, so I hoping this will last me, and I will never need another computer.

Oh my! Talking about games. Have you ever played ZUMA? My dh bought it a couple of years ago, and we had a running competition to see who could have the best ace times, and the highest scores. We stll play it some, but not quite as often. I am not usually good with games, but this one, I have to brag, I had the top score.
