This article describes how to check the integrity of the hard disk drive in Windows XP. After you install Windows XP, the Scandisk command is not available.
Double-click My Computer
Right-click the hard disk drive that you want to check.
Click Properties
Click Tools.
Under Error-checking, click Check Now.
Click Start

I tried it and it said ( The disk check could not be performed because exclusive access to the drive could not be obtained)

Doug, didn't it give you the option to have the disk check run the next time you started your computer? should have been in the same pop up window
