Thanks Laura, I am so proud! All the eggs were fertile, what a successful hatch! I lost three out of 16 eggs. two died about 10 days into incubation, and one died while pipping out of the shell. It happens I know, but I still hated to lose even one. They always have something to say! Every time I go into the garage they are all talking to me, trying to crow, curious to see what I am going to get for them today...lol. They are a hoot, and such a laid back breed of bird. I havent handled them that much, and you can reach right in and touch one, even pick one up and hold it, theyjust dont seem to have that fear that some have of humans. They have become my favorite breed! The silkies are cool too, we hatched four of those eggs, one died, it never ate Usually you have to dip a chicks beak a few times in the water, but not the food, they catch on...usually. I don't think this one did. Poor little thing, I really nursed this one too, it wanted to be held all the time, cried if I wasnt holding it. I really was sad when it died as I was already pretty attached to it from the get go. I should post a pic of the three we hatched and lived. They are so sweet. I always am holding one during our homeschooling. I want them to be really really tame. I am working on seeing about chicken diapers for them so they can walk around the house and be house pets. I know, I am nuts...

I am so jealous Kellyga!!! I can't wait to get up there and get my own chicken coop started. Been pouring over the Murray McMurray catalog and am starting to plan! I think hubby is going to cave for me...he just chuckles whenever I bring up the subject of chickens... So tell me, did your chickens lay these eggs, or do you have to buy them somewhere to incubate them? And yes, they are beautiful!!!

Don't be jealous! You will have your chickens, we had to move first too, I am so glad we are moved, seemed like forever, but we did it! My pair of Phoenix, Tim and Faith made those eggs for me.

Urm Kelly? Is there really such a product as "Chicken diapers"? That sounded so silly to me, I'm having a laughing attack here!

Well, all of the cockerals from my first hatch are sold except for one, I HAD to save one...right? RIGHT? Just agree with me here, I am grieving from my loss... Put an ad in the Market Bulletin. The same day it was in the mail to everyone I had a call at 4 pm that afternoon and a call at 6 pm that evening. First one was an older man wanting three for his grandchildren. I explained my only stipulation of selling them as that the person buying can assure me they will be safe in a pen and housed warmly as they are still very young, and it stillg ets very cold here at night. He assured me they would be. Then there was the teenage boy, man he was more of a fanatic about chickens than I am! If that can be possible! He said he had been into chickens now for 11 years. I guess he has had them since he was just a kid, a little kid! He was very nice and talkative, and he has flight pens and has had previous experience with this breed. I felt very comfortable selling them to him. he took 2. So there was 2 left, one I kept and one to sell. Had a call yesterday and I told the man I had 1 left. He wanted it so he came on his way. Real nice man and his wife. They said they had looked at the breed on McMurray but the minumum order is 25 so when they are shipped they can stay warm. He was happy to have the one, and I told him I would have pullets of a different line for sale in the summer. SOOO I reckon I am cranking the incubator back up! WOO HOO! More baby hatching. I was sad to see the boys go, but I knew I couldn't possible keep them all. Half the girls will go in with Willie, the other half in with thei dad to line breed and we will see how things pan out, see if I can get the best traits to come out. Anyway, I made sisty dollars this weekend, and I sold Mutt to boot, one of my Aracauna mix roos. I have too many roos I don't really want, so I sold him for 5 dollars to the first couple that came by, they wanted him and who am I to say no, since I didnt want him relly anyway. I am a bit sad to see my first babies go, but I will get over it I just need to hatch more.
