took the strut of da old buick yesterday to put a new one on.... The old one got put back on...temporarily The top strut mount, is freakin really on the shock tube, I couldn't keep the shaft from turning, while I was trying to remove the nut. Now, do ya suppose I could get a pipe wrench to hold this shinny lil rod? Vise grips were a no-go, Do you suppose a saws-all will cut through it? I know a cuttin' torch would...but alas, I have no torch (I do have the spring compressed) although deep inside I'd like to cut through the shaft and watch da damn spring FLY!!!

Thank goodness you have the spring tied. Are you using an impact wrench or just a wrench? An impact will usually spin the nut right off. The new cartrage should have came with a nut as they are lockers and shouldn't be re-used. Find or borrow a tool called a nut splitter or use a Dremel with a cutting wheel to cut that little jewel off.

Sometimes , a little heat applied to the nut(s) from a small propane torch will cause them to "scream" right off... Of course be careful not to burn any rubber(s).....
