www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/item.aspx?type=blog&ak=61425934.blogwww.nytimes.com/2009/01/16/nyregion/16crash.html?hpA US Airways jetliner with 155 people aboard lost power in both engines, possibly from striking birds, after taking off from La Guardia Airport on Thursday afternoon. The pilot ditched in the icy Hudson River and all on board were rescued by a flotilla of converging ferries and emergency boats, the authorities said. What might have been a catastrophe in New York — one that evoked the feel if not the scale of the Sept. 11 attack — was averted by a pilot’s quick thinking and deft maneuvers, and by the nearness of rescue boats, a combination that witnesses and officials called miraculous.

I watched the first pics of that, it came on and interrupted a show I was watching... Yep, that pilot had it goin on when it came down to needin skill, he pretty much centered it right in da harbor... I do think though that the flight attendants too should be praised, they had to prepare everyone for what was to come...all in all, a miracle

The pilot grew up north of where I live. They were interviewing his sister, that lives in Dallas, and she said that he was a glider pilot as well. That helped him to successfully land that 'bird' on the water, with out it crashing, being torn apart, and sinking. If I were US Airways, I would give him a month off with pay. The plane had very little damage and was secured to the dock. Saved having to retrieve it from the bottom of the Hudson River. Now they have to find the 'Black Boxes' and both of the jet engines. If I had to be in a jet crash, that one is the one I would pick.
