Cavey, you price on corn is super high. Here corn is 12 for a dollar. It not local. Not sure where its from but is good corn. Some yellow and white. To night, rib roast, potatoes, mushroom gravy, fresh tomato's and onions. Store bought light bread. CF Damn CF.....great price on the corn.....i'll take 20 bux worth Most pholks around here are just just tryin to make a dollar......so, they sell for what the big farms are chargin...it's good stuff...just high on the price.

Pholks, Here last summer you couldn't touch a dozen ears of corn for 5 dollars, they were sold by the 1/2 dozen for 3 bux..I imagine with the late start here this spring, and the weather it will be 7 dollars a dozen.. and we..are in corn country We could get corn out of the Canning Company fields ( for free) with a lil stealin' . It's everywhere... Nope, around here Produce costs a bit more, but we are firm in our beliefs that it's WAY more important to know WHO raised the produce & How and where the crops were raised. CF, although many here would buy the $1 a dozen corn...
Majority of folks in these parts would pass it by...For instance: Yesterday at the farmers Market..
There are a group of Hmongs that are there every week, they give cryptic details about the location there crops are raised (rules say you must raise the crops yourself..in this county)
There are rumors that human fece's is used for fertilizer (although I believe it's NOT the truth)... I know that the Hmongs are Great gardener's, I know that growing food for them was once SURVIVAL..However; What I don't believe though are the things like:
Tennis ball sized Beets...IN MARCH.. Potatoes in MAY ?? (no way they are grown here)3 tables away from Us... They sold: Carrots for 2 dollars a 1 lb. bunchCabbage (for a large head) 3 dollars....Dill for $1 dollar a bunch Now I ain't sayin' they didn't sell any (as I said there are a few folks that don't BUY LOCAL)We sold the same sized bunch of carrots for $4 bux...sold em' all we sold the same sized head of cabbage for 7 bux...we sold 7 out of nine (I can almost SMELL the kraut fermenting ) We sold 12 bunches of dill at $3 bux a bunch...came home with 2 they packed up way before Us and left the grounds... so, I imagine we will see sweetcorn at 7 bux a dozen this year also...maybe more We don't grow corn for sale, just for Us...

Spuds: I like doing my own experiments with rubs and so far things are working out...I do look at basic recipes at times and do my own variation on that. I hate following recipes to the letter, must be my Italian heritage....hard headed . Cavey,Phil, andCF: Corn in the store here is between $2.50-$3.00 a dozen and road stands get about $4.00 a dozen...there claim is fresh picked. We pay $0 for our corn. Leftovers for supper tonight, pasta with vegetables. (premavera)

My sister lives in WV and paid .50 a piece for ears of corn at her local farmers market. She was told the rain had made the crop less than usual.

I need to try grilling my egg plant. I've been cooking it in the oven with a little EVOO. Do you lay it directly on the grill?

Just my two cents, after cooking on both sides about two minutes then add the cheese to melt. I would make a sauce in a small pan (about one quart) season the sauce with oregano, basil, and some hot pepper flakes. For a topping.

So to answer your question I meant tomato sauce.

Ok seriously some of you people need to come cook for me!! We would eat well as a group for sure! Ok, so where do we get together for this cook out? Today we decided to make Chili with the short ribs, using the beans we grew last season. We are smokin the ribs and sending them to the pot to simmer with the beans for the rest of the day....low and slow. I can't give ya all the the recipe because it changes from time to time depending how I feel. One thing though we are using fresh jalapeno,Ancho, and tomato from the farm. Our daughter-in-law is Cuban and she is making rice and beans with pulled pork,so it should be interesting meal tonight, some of our friends are coming too as well as my son and daughter-in-laws friends, and they are bring dishes that they like to make, so it should be a festive night. Bigdog if ya show up be ready to eat!! 2706 maroast

I had the Harr Kow , I called 1st and talked to her (owner) we have been going there since the kids were young. So they know us. But I called and lo and behold Lin answered ... I asked if she used flour for gravy , she said yes, I tried to explain to her I was allergic to flour. So she said Harr Kow.. Shrimp Harr Kow because the chicken is usually breaded. So I got there and she came running out and asked if it was ok to use corn starch:) I said ohhh yes perfect!! So I am hoping they make their own chicken stock, because alot of chicken stock has Gluten. So far so good!! I have not had a prob so far Yay for me!! I wish I'd of thought of the chicken stock earlier ... ohhhh well we will see Oh it is veggies and shrimp with gravy .. usually comes with rice it is really good!!
