I hope to get some chicken leg qtrs. cooked for supper, so for least half dozen meals. I am trying to use what they give me. Buy what I need to fill in. So chicken, green beans and taters for supper. I got my gallon of milk Wed. This Wed need milk and bread. Next Sat bus goes to back country trip. Need sack lunch. Supper that Sat will be at café on way back. Trip is free and you can put in a dollar donation to help on gas. Cost is the meal . Cheap trip that way. Yes,we picked up thighs (they had quarters too) for .89/lb.Got frozen beef back dog bones 1.29/lb,pork ribs 1.49/lb,large shoulder roast .99/lb had cut into 4 pieces.Crummy hotdogs at .99/lb...freeze em for dog treats or put their anxiety meds in on work days. All in all hit some major pork/chicken values, tho eggs were 4.99/dozen cheapest.Beef still out of price range, cheapest chuck was 4.99/lb.

Sausage is very high too, On sale $2.50 for 12 oz of links or patties. I had a link for dinner/lunch. I will open a can of meat for Sat or have chicken sandwich. I was hungry for some sausage. My main meat is chicken. I like dark meat better than white. I am not suppose to eat much beef anyway. Thursday I will go to food bank. Get odd stuff I would never buy.

I bought pork butt $.99 pound, spare ribs $1.29 pound. Our Mexican store has whole chickens on sale now at $.99 pound. I like there chickens they are not packed in a bag of water. And they are friers not old laying hens. Only store around that has an old time market, nothing is pre wraped. You can pick and choose what you want. Not on sale I don't buy it. CF

CO has no state tax on food but like town here is 4% for school sports. Maybe part to town. Not sure but I know school sports. Vernal is 4% and know not what for and they are cheaper than ere. But they figure if you would have to make the trip the gas cost. Big city no tax on food. I will stock there if can. I am planning to go Sam's and Kroger's in big city in Sept when I go to doctor. Son has to take me to doctor as he has no Thursday hours so I can not do on the senior bus. I pay the trip. Fair. Bus does got to Walmart in big city once amonth .

I hear tell of this thang called RUSTLING. It happens here often, sometimes the animals are taken alive. They are also butchered right in the field. And sometime the body is found right next to the animal. But yet we are over run with wild hogs. We eat the hogs, I have several in the freezer now. Have been making sausage. CF

We had a couple chickens taken one time. I was teenager and doing the feeding and lockup. The gate stood open the hen house door. I asked dad to get lock on the hen house. He did, We were in town.
We do not have wild hogs. I have eaten porcupine. Tom cat brought in cottons tails a couple time. We ate them and shared with the cat. We were on the ranch then. Very little money.

Mom back in 30's cooked pork neck bones with cabbage and veggies for stew. Mom baked bread. We ate it on bread. Far as I can remember that was the meal. No taters as was in the stew.
I never had biscuits and gravy till I was adult and worked for the county and the county had breakfast for some of us that got awards. 5 years pins 10 years so on to 20. Few awards like $100. I got one once.

Biscuits and gravy!! Yup the one time I had that I was a kid. Asked for it because it smelled great. Thats when I learned I didn't like wet bread. was forced to eat it and never have liked wet bread since! Well I have never been big on bread and or noodles go figure huh??
Yesterday I had Chicken Beans and rice , One of my fav's most of the time I don't put meat in it because the beans have enuf protein.

We ate wet bread with bean soup on and I mean soup and not lot of beans. on plate, Mom did use bowls for chili and crackers. But later on. She would cream some thing and we ate on bread. Made food go farther. Depression and then WWII with rationing. I like noodles and dumplings.

So our "glamorous" dinner out relied on how much change I had in my purse because the popup food vans don't take plastic ..managed to scrape up about 10 dollars so we had hot chips (fries only thicker cut) a spring roll each and shared a bottle of water! The entertainment was free so a very cheap night put for us!
