I could always use a little info or help from anyone who has done this. I've had success growing them phrom mushroom blocks which I purchesd pre-inoculated, so I phigured whynot give it a try on my own.
This phorum is great!!! Thanx in advance phor any inpho.

I want to seed the area around it as well with some other types. Dont know much bout growin em sorry! Maybe we can teach each other!

The only thing about seeding the area around the stump with other types of shrooms is cross contamination by spores. Also I think you would possibaly create a stronhold for bad molds or fungi that could kill everything off. We could defenitly learn togather. Isn't that how its supposed to be in a phamily?

Yeah me to! Well I started soaking my saw dust (actually its chips from a chain saw) of hard maple, barly, and I added a small amount of wheat straw. Tonight I'll put it in qt canning jars and steralize them in a pressure cooker for 60-90 min at 15#. Tomorrow I'll use plug spawn That I was gonna use for logs. and put them in a grow system that I got from mushbox. I figure I'd buy one and then copy it for future batches or different strains. hopefuly I'm gonna do alright. Read alot and trying my own growing ideas. I'll keep updating. so hang around

Ever heard of using hydrogen peroxide instead of heat/pressure to sterilize your substrate?

;)I want to buy a kit, grow and dry my own mushrooms. They are so expensive in the stores and we eat alot of mushrooms. are the kits easy to work with? are they very time consuming?? I am planning on growing them in my shed in 5 gallon buckets. Will this work?

5 gallon buckets might not give enough light. I don't have alot of time right now but I will describe the "mushbox" system I bought this weekend. What kind of mushrooms do you want to grow?
The 2 jars are going GREAT!!!!! My trial system worked. Now I'll have to get more going next week.

Shitake are eaiser to grow than buttons. Buttons require dark, moist conditions. Havent tried to grow buttons. Shitake is what I'm growing. If you just want enough for your family, the best ,least expensive, would be to buy a kit. Its a block that requires a little attention and will produce enough for a family. Good luck.

Craz, there's a website somewhere about the peroxide method. I will look for it, no promises. Since I read about it maybe a year ago I've been wanting to try it "when I get time". You know how that goes......

I was at the farmer's market last year and there was a guy selling mushroom kits. One of them consisted of a roll of toilet paper, a plastic bag, and spores. The toilet paper is the substrate, and they used some recycled kind that doesn't have perfumes or wierd chemicals in it. You put it in the bag, I think add water, spores and stick it in a cabinet somewhere in your house. (The TP roll is unrecognizable when its done.)
Wish I'd gotten more info.

Yup I'm the one growing shrooms phor sale. Well hoping to, things are going slower than planed. Hope to post pics this week. Gotta phind the digital cam. My setup consists of 2 66 qt rubbermaid totes one inside the other. in the bottom one is water and a submersible fish tank heater, for constant temp. in the top one is a thing called "tropic aire" it is used in reptile tanks for constant fresh air and humidity, drilled a hole to get the hose through. then a remote thermometer one with a remote sensor. Then put the top on and hopefully let them grow! But the "cheater logs" would actually grow in your kitchen. They come with a plastic bag with some holes in it you just have to mist them a few times a day. With my setup I don't need to pay as much attention. Hope you understand my rambeling,I'll put pics up soon. Tennoc, thanx that site is awsome! I'll be checking into this system of his ,again thanx.
