Here are some pics oph the mushrooms at their different stages: Here are a slant (the test tube) and another plate being colonized. Alot oph moisture condensation, havent been able to dry them out. Now here's a sawdust jar with the spawn running in it. Notice the halo on the side oph the jar. Here's one oph the few blocks I have going. These are new mushrooms coming out. Also notice the "blue/green mold on the block. Gotta scrape that off, it's my biggest nemisis.

Was just reading one of my books on mushrooms (what else ) And there is a mushroom colony here,in Michigan, of Honey Mushrooms, that covers 37 acres, weighs at least 220,000 lbs and is at least 1500 yrs old. There is another colony in Washington State, of the same family, that covers 2,200 acres and is at least 2,400 yrs old. Other than the trembeling Aspen forests of Colorado, this fungus is the largest living organism on the planet.

I didn't say the state was that old, thats just the estimated age of the colony. The Lions Mane is a delicasy mushroom not to common, but does grow wild in the U.S.A.

This is a plate of Agar with a Hyphal aggregate, the spot in the middle. This is the first sign of a mushroom growing in the petri dish

Made a few culture transfers last night, and things are progressing. I read last night though, that the peroxide method I've been using weakens strains. This is a major down fall. This means that each generation of transfers gets weaker. And some won't live through a second or third generation transfer. The transfers are important to keep the culture alive and well. Sure hopeing that these go well. I'm not useing the peroxide in the Agar for this transfer. As to the sawdust spawn, going to move that to a bulk substrate possibly today, if not, Tuesday.

I know i'm pertty dumb about this but...........how come ya gotta have a sterile enviroment? It ain't sterile in the woods.....or is it.

When you consider that each mushroom disperses millions of spores, some are bound to make it. When you work with just a fraction of those spores, you have to make sure they make it. Hence the need for a sterile enviroment. The mycilium can overcome many invaders once it is established. I've jst got to make sure it gets established and colonizes its substrait.

Don't think that Bro. I didn't understand the reason either, until ya try growin em in a non-sterile enviorment and see invaders take over.

Well, sad to say the heat is really affecting the growth of the shrooms. with all this heat I'm at a stand still until I figure out how to cool the area.
